Running from Race is serious business. In a telling scene from Alex Haley’s “Roots,” Fiddler’s prayer, played by Louis Gossett, Jr., is heard when Kunta Kinte, played by Levar Burton, answers, “Toby...”  in response to the question,  What’s your name?  The character Toby in Haley’s “Roots”  is  an antithesis to who we are and who we must become and  our  skin color, yours nor mine,  is not a factor. Can we admit that Race is the culprit behind the blights, miscalculations, and innuendos known to occur in  the politics of  news reporting?  When we can admit that, then we will have almost become ready to run from Race.  Run Obama Run…

President Obama is running from race and we’re talking about running.  A major defect in your sight occurs when you're not running.  We can’t see what  President Obama sees because we’ve fail to run. We stand by this phenomena  called Race. And it becomes our standing and further handicaps our progress as spiritual beings. 
When you’re running from Race, you don’t talk about Race from a racial prospective because you have weightier matters to deal with as does President Obama. Things like justice, mercy, equity, fair play, responsibility to the poor and responsibility for the deprived.  How quickly we forget those who Jesus referred to as the "Least of These." I strongly suggest to the salted American people  that we must run, even if no one else does, run hard to catch up with our President and then concentrate with the full intention of outrunning him  in these matters of the spirit. Former President Jimmie Carter is the one person that I’ve heard on the national scene that admits that Race is a decisive impetus as well as a divisive barrier to an unbiased assessment of a presidential approval rating expressly from conservative America. Didn’t you see from the video that that one factor is more important than the slave master’s investment in him. http://youtu.be/_yEnbXugHig  If we all want the same thing that Toby was after, freedom to exercise his inalienable rights,  then we can take this  cue to run from Race even as I applaud President  as he does so.

With residue  a racial caste system like ours still in tact, one is strongly urged to accept the system’s assessment and label concerning  your own personage according to Race even though they know nothing about you. Then like Toby, that  gives us more reason to run.  We must run from Race  until we get far enough away from Race that Race  no longer affects our actions towards each another and others especially those who are out of work not to mention the homeless. “Running from Race in the Forrest Gump Tradition”

The competition was fierce in the leading role category of the 1994 Oscar nominations. They were Morgan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vd420MYpGek Freeman in “The Shaw shank Redemption,” Tom Hanks in “Forrest Gump,” Nigel Hawthorne in “The Madness of King George,” Paul New man in “Nobody’s Fool,” and John Travolta in “Pulk Fiction.” The winner, Tom Hanks, gave a very humble and touching acceptance speech.  America watched as his voice cracked and tears filled the eyes of his wife whom he had kissed long and tenderly before he took to the stage. Gump, at approximately 12 years of age while shackled with leg braces, was knocked to the ground by a projectile thrown by one of three bicycled bullies. As he ran Gump’s leg braces which had been holding him back fell away.  He then was able to out run three bullies sent to destroy him.  Run Obama run!

In daring to run from his natural potential, Gump tapped into a spiritual one that wooed and won the hearts of the American audience.    Because he was willing to run in spite of his limited potential, he tapped into an unlimited one with America watching and pulling together in his behalf.  Run Obama run!

American too must run, run from Race in the Forest Gump tradition. One of Gump’s most memorable lines came later in the movie, “Why don’t you love me Jenny?  He continues with what we call the foundation of why we can and why we must run from Race. As an American citizen and a believer, I applaud   Barak Hussein Obama in his role as President even as we applauded and lauded Tom Hanks in his role as Forest Gump. America limits her own potential which has always been with capital A for Attitude concerning Race. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pB7jXz9Iz8 She’s not limited by her desire for racial harmony. America really wants to move beyond Race as demonstrated by the recent rally in our nation’s capital lead by Bully #2, Arch Conservative Venomist Glenn Beck. In his case, America seems to be saying one thing and doing another.  Run Obama run!

President Obama has run from race from the very beginning. We can still hear his words from a higher order of thinking in the 2004 keynote address at the DNC. We all applauded him for “Now even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters and negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes. Race is our standing. Race is also leg braces that we’ll discover we don’t need to stand if we run. Leg braces are holding us back. 

Let me break it down for you. In the Spring of 2005,  I was headed south on Hwy 25 in Augusta-Richmond County GA on my way to a substitute teaching assignment in a local Elementary School. The Spirit of the Lord said to me, “You must to get over being black!”  At the time, I was not aware of the necessity. However, that has become my challenge ever since. I must run from Race. Black is my skin color but spirit is who I am when I run from Race. Spirit is the one essential redemption quality of Grace. The fruit of the Spirit is Love having already given birth to its own nine manifestations [love, joy, peace, longsuffering, goodness, gentleness, faith, meekness, temperance] inside each of us aside from skin color.  Race then, let’s get the spelling just as I heard it on that spring day in 2005.
